Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall
The site was formerly the Army Headquarters and once the largest military zone in Taipei. It is said that gold transported from Mainland China was once stored here. The hall’s blue-and-white color scheme reflects the main colors of the national flag. The decorative dome features the Blue Sky with a White Sun and its twelve rays, while the bronze statue faces west toward the Presidential Office and Mainland China, each element carrying symbolic meaning. As Taiwan has progressed toward democracy and greater openness, the square in front of the memorial hall has become an important gathering place for democratic movements.
